Ethiopian Birth Family

Scott and I have decided to hire an investigator in Ethiopia to search for Isaac and Ava's birth family.

Only ten percent of international adoptive families make an attempt to locate their children's birth mothers/families.

We've told several people we are doing this and the first thing they ask is: Why?  Well, we actually have many reasons.  Here are a few of them:

-Adoptive children sometimes fantasize about their birth mothers and are usually very curious about where they came from before they were adopted.  We want to answer as many questions as we can directly.

-Some tragedy happened to the birth mothers for them to give up Ava and Isaac.  It must have been a scary time for them and now they have no idea where in the world their children are.  We sent pictures of our family to the investigator detailing that Isaac and Ava are safe and thriving.

-We want them to know what their birth mother/father/family looks like.  Isaac and Ava now have white parents, grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, etc.  They live in a loving home, but they are going to be curious about their genetic connection at some point and we want to provide as many answers as possible.

-We want Ava and Isaac to realize that we are so thankful for their birth mothers.  Without them, we would never have our sweet baby boy and girl.

  1. I think it is a great idea that you would do that! I am sure that both the kids and the mothers will be very happy to know about the other. Ava and Isaac will always be loved but I am sure they will often wonder why they are not the same color as the rest of the family. I am glad that you are willing to let them know about their birth family and provide information for them and not make them wonder.
